Lexington, Kentucky City Profile

Known by many as the "Horse Capital of the World" (its official nickname), Lexington is Kentucky's second largest city, with a population of just over a quarter million. Founded in 1775, Lexington gets its name from Lexington, Massachusetts, as a tribute to the victory of American colonists over British Troops there.

Today, Lexington is known as the center of America's Bluegrass region, thoroughbred horse racing, and for the rabid fans of the University of Kentucky (UKY) Basketball team.
